Ash Street construction approved in Shafter council
Shafter City Council approved Ash Street construction up to what can be built now linking toward South Shafter Avenue since right of way was not secured. Three Kern COG funded projects were greenlighted including widening South Shafter Avenue, paving an alley, and extending Redwood Avenue, with bids to be invited. The annual Kiwanis Halloween Parade and police vehicle overhaul were approved, along with school crossing markers on South Shafter Avenue near Beth Eden. The council opposed the Tuolumne river Wild and Scenic designation while backing a hydroelectric dam project and selected leaders for a California Cities Conference. Public comment raised blue curbs for handicapped access and housing element committee plans discussed.
