Eight new teachers with diverse backgrounds join Shafter High School expanding the faculty to 27 for the 1949 50 term. The new staff include Charles Baldwin Robert Ewen Joseph Valante Elliott Garrison Gerald Hedden Marjorie Rose Jeannette Schumacher and Mary Jeanne Strench with returning veterans listed alongside Principal Jack Hill.

Kern County Fair Parade Opens Season September 27 10 AM

Plans are complete for the Kern County Fair and Horse Show parade as the opening event on Tuesday September 27 at 10 00 am. Dick Leask chairs arrangements and reports entry blanks arriving from riding groups bands and civic organizations. Farm Organizations Day and Veterans Day race to present the best program with a noon picnic and a massed parade banquet and ceremonies planned with high Army and Navy officials expected as guests.

Vernon Timmons Named Secretary of Central Valley Highway

Charles Chambers announced Vernon Timmons as Secretary of the Central Valley Highway Association replacing Norman Holt. Timmons also serves as Secretary-Manager of the Hanford Chamber of Commerce and will handle duties in addition to his chamber work.

Revival at Missionary Baptist Church Begins

The Orthodox Missionary Baptist Church of Shafter will start revival meetings during the morning service Sunday. Rev. Sam Wilcoxen, pastor, announced the event. Rev. Charlie Robison of Paragould Arkansas will conduct the revival, held each evening for two weeks at 7 30 p.m.

Richland School Enrollment Rises to 1590 Students

Enrollment at Richland school reached 1590 students yesterday, up from 1496 a year ago. The gain of 94 students reflects ongoing growth in the district's student body and indicates a strong start to the academic year.

Spud Growers Face Loss of Price Support

Secretary Brannan warned Congress he will remove government price support for California early potatoes if growers reject proposed marketing and planting controls. He cited authority under current law and the delayed flexible program known as the Aiken Act, set to begin January 1 unless Congress acts.
