Local Crash in June Results in $8465 Law Suit
A two car collision on June 21 near here led to a Bakersfield Superior Court suit for 8465, filed by Ben Shapiro of Los Angeles as a passenger in Richard E. Ecker’s car. Shapiro seeks 5000 for injuries 800 for medical care and 2500 for three months of lost work plus 165 for damaged clothing eyewear and watch. The Reece vehicle struck Ecker’s at the corner of Manner and San Diego Avenues.

70,000 Attend Local Recreation Summer Activities

Arrest of 2 Boys Clears Up Series of Thefts

Last Rites Held For Elba Buck
Elba Moore Buck died Saturday at Kern General Hospital at age 81. Funeral services were held Monday at Flickinger-Janzen Chapel with burial in Shafter Cemetery. Survived by widow Addie Josephine Buck and son Gerald Buck of Vallejo California, plus a granddaughter. Buck was born September 25 1867 in Meige County Ohio and moved to California in 1939 after earlier farming and carpentry work.

20-30 Provides Football Time Clock and Scoreboard
The 20-30 Club of Shafter plans to purchase a $250 timing clock and a new scoreboard for Shafter High School to be ready for the upcoming football season. At a August 24 meeting 17 members attended, with 32 present at the prior week’s gathering. Fire Dept to Repair Toys for Poor Children in Shafter
