Farm Worker Held For Hearing After Shafter Child Incident

Elmer W. McCoy a 46 year old Buttonwillow farm worker was held for a preliminary hearing in Bakersfield court Tuesday morning on an incident charge involving an 11 year old Shafter girl. The girl's 9 year old brother notified his mother that the sister had entered a car with a drunken man. The girl and family live at the De Witte Labor Camp north of Shafter. McCoy denied mistreatment according to sheriff's deputies.

Legal sale of tires and a jeep to be appealed

County counsel reports a legal notice of sale and description of the appeal to be published in the Press. Under the new school code bids must be accepted, and the amount cited was 2000 dollars before legislative change.

Mail Christmas Packages Now For Overseas Mail

The period November 1 to November 20 is set for mailing Christmas parcels by surface transport and December 1 to December 10 for the period. Greeting cards for the Armed Forces overseas should be mailed within the parcel periods to reach Fleet Post Office locations in New York San Francisco or Navy facilities.

DMV Ceremony Honors Local Builders and Donors

The 11 am ceremony will be followed by lunch at Memorial Hall with the Kiwanis Club. The event honors the Department of Motor Vehicles and adds one or two members from the department. City Council approves annexation and audits progress

The City Council unanimously adopts a resolution to annex Edwards Tract, now surrounded by the city, after prior failed attempts. The meeting noted a bid for a new police car from Richland Chev, approved nuisances abatement under state law, and heard CPA Don Ruggenberg commend the city’s financial condition and filing system. The council also sent Ben Grundy to a governor’s disaster conference, equalized business license payments, and issued a Coffee Cup cafe amusement machine license to Jack Manweiler. Boy Scout Exhibits Invite Public to View Parade Activities
