Drivers License to Require Photo In California

California motorists will need a photo on their driver license for identification under a 1957 amendment. Assemblyman Pat Kelly announced cameras will be installed in DMV offices nationwide, with about 200 units planned by year end. Royal Blue Reprographics will provide the equipment at 449 cents per picture.

Community National Bank Opens in Shafter to 700 Crowd

D Roger Thuman vice president of the Community National Bank thanked Shafter residents for a warm opening day. Mayor Ben Grundy Assemblyman Pat Kelly and Chamber leader Joe Sales praised the bank and its plans for growth. George C Parker of Community Banks of Buttonwillow dedicated the facility as crowds toured drive in depository and large adjacent parking area.

Halloween Parade Set For Friday October 31

Kiwanis Club announces the sixteenth annual Halloween Parade on Friday evening October 31. Co Chairman Art Banks and Bill Banks invite all children from local schools Lerdo Rio Bravo Kern Academy to join. Three divisions will compete and prizes awarded. The parade begins at 7 00 p m and ends at the high school for candy distribution.

Rio Bravo PTA Carnival and Barbecue Event Ad

Rio Bravo P.T.A. and Student Body host a carnival and barbecue on November 6, 1958 at 5:30 p.m. Dinner begins at 5:30 with a talent show at 7 p.m and attractions at 8 p.m. Dinner is $1.50 for adults and high schoolers, 0.50 for elementary. Proceeds support the school community.

Dick Witcher to Receive Eagle Rank at Court of Honor

Dick Witcher son of Mr and Mrs Jim Witcher 240 Manuel Avenue will receive his Eagle Rank at a Court of Honor held at 7 30 p m November 1 at the Shafter Wink Gahaal. The Order of the Arrow will present the award during a campfire ceremony along with advancing about 50 Shafter Scouts. The Fall Court of Honor directed by Bill Irvin features a diorama of Indian life and marks Dick Witener as the first Shafter boy to earn Eagle in the Fall. Attendance urged for all parents and scouts.

Knowland to Visit Wasco Airport For Saturday Stop

U S Senator William F Knowland will land at Wasco Airport Saturday afternoon at 1 50 and give a brief speech before taking questions. He departs at 2 20 p m to fly to Los Angeles for a TV appearance on November Decision at 5 00 p m on LA Channel 2 where Democratic rival Pat Brown will also appear.
