Ralph and John Crawford improved facilities and added new menu items while expanding parking and amenities including a swimming pool. Former Graduate Receives a $2000 Scholarship
John L. Nickel, 28, Albany California, received a $2000 graduate fellowship grant from Allied Chemical General Chemical Division. An entomology major at UC Berkeley in final year of graduate study, he is among 40 recipients. The awards aim to develop technically trained leadership for the chemical industry. Nickel is a Shafter High School graduate with degrees from Isfield College and UC.

Maple PTA Carnival Hailed A Grand Social and Financial Success
The Maple PTA carnival held October 14 drew many Shafter and Wasco friends and the school community. A wagon train starlight ride led by Engineer Jake Kliewer entertained attendees, while games, a country store, and a chili bean supper filled the event. Mrs. Homer Watson led the planning with help from the kitchen committee.

Neighbors Plan Shower for Burned-out Pedigo Family
Residents of Fresno Avenue rally to aid the T. L. Pedigo family after a Friday night house fire in San Diego. A shower party is set for Thursday October 3 at Maple School at 7 PM with refreshments. The Pedigos include two young children under three and a year old. Only clothing and a few items survived. freezer, vacuum, washing machine damaged by smoke.
