Last Rites Held For Howard Booth
Services for Howard Booth were held in Flickinger Janzen Mortuary and Chowchilla Presbyterian Church with Rev. William S. Harper and Rev. Mott officiating. Booth, 34, died after illness linked to ethylene chloride gas exposure at the Mettler plant in Bakersfield. Born May 25 1913 in Gucamonga he lived in Shafter as a foreman at Em H Mettler & Sons Farm. Surviving: wife Mildred, son Richard D. and daughter Carole Lucy of Shafter, plus parents L R and Mrs Booth of Chowchilla.

Cotton Fires Hit Two Gins and Triangle Farms
The County Fire Department twice fought fires last week over cotton at the Coberly-West Gin and Triangle Farms. A trailer load at Kimberlina Road burned but was controlled with moderate loss and no trailer damage. At the Coberly-West yards two bales were completely lost.
