Gene Gunther son of Mr and Mrs George Gunther turned his car over in the Calloway canal Sunday October 25 while duck hunting. He escaped but Fred Brown was trapped until Gene freed him. The car needs a new top and windshield. Also note California has ten beet sugar refineries employing thousands.
More than a thousand Shafter area school children will march in the annual Halloween Parade next Monday evening. The event features a patriotic motif and Halloween trap pings with Uncle Sam ghosts and goblins, sponsored by the Shafter Kiwanis Club under Bill Johnson.
An army of Shafter High School students will march into the cotton fields starting Monday to aid the war scrap drive and fill a 300-worker shortfall. The Hi Y club plans a Halloween parade November 12 with heavy iron and tires sought, while U.S. Army trucks assist in scrap collection.

Mr and Mrs Albert W Goos sen and family, from Dinuba, visited Shafter on Monday as business callers.

The statewide kill exceeds last year’s total by 467, with tags still arriving at the State Division of Fish and Game.
