California State Library released a booklet titled Easy Reading Voter Guide to simplify ballot measures. Reed Print Inc distributes the copy as a public service, noting Kern County lacked access while many other libraries could use the guide for clear reading of the measures.
A ballot style forum will gather Oct 30 2000 at 7 p.m. at Shafter to discuss district issues and answer resident questions. An informal reception follows and the public is invited to attend.
Seventh in a series on the November 7 election. Larry Starrh of Shafter, 41, a cotton farmer and longtime community volunteer, seeks a short term Kern High School District trustee position. Incumbents Bryan Batey and Bob Hampton run uncontested. Starrh joins Jennifer Cecero Cynthis Icardo for the seat. Starrh emphasizes fiscal responsibility and policy making aided by years on local boards. He and his wife Shana have three children and are active in Shafter civic life.
