Generals Edge Lemoore for First Win in Narrow 31 30 Victory

Shafter Generals defeat Lemoore 31 to 30 to notch their first win of the season after a tense Friday night game. Colonels win third game 19 to 0 at Friday prelim

The Shafter Colonels defeated Lemoore 19 to 0 after a 14 7 loss to Taft. Quarterback Jerry Lauderdale led the drive with a rushing score and setup a second, as the Colonels rolled to their third win in four starts.

Lowell Todd Shatters Low Gross At Shafter Interclub

Lowell Todd shot a 76 to win low gross honors at the Shafter interclub golf tournament held at Bakersfield Country Club. Dick Scott won low net blind bogey honors. Rotary claimed the team trophy for low gross and Lions for blind bogey. Thirty five golfers participated and a dinner followed. Building Under Construction on Central Avenue

New offices for Don Ruggenberg and Phil Channeson rise at the corner of Central avenue and Kern street. The 2050 square foot building, with all entrances facing Central, is valued at 35000 dollars and scheduled for completion by February first. architect Robert Eddy also designed Bakersfield city hall.

He had served as vice president of the league for the past year.

Concert Association mobilizes 60 volunteers for membership drive

The Concert Association launches a seasonal drive with 60 volunteers delivering mem berships in two cities. Adults pay 6 dollars and students 3 dollars as door to door sales begin this week. After Saturday only newcomers and those away may join. missed residents should contact association headquarters and organizers at Hemingson’s Shafter Mercantile. The drive began with a kickoff dinner led by Don Maupin, with Sylvia Baughman and Mary DeVincenzo among organizers. The group plans to hire the Roger Wagner Chorale for a Shafter performance next January.

The Shafter Community Chest approves adding the Salvation Army to its beneficiaries and plans to raise 9612 dollars this year. City Will Not Get Break in Buying South Labor Camp

City Attorney Al Mortimore said the South Shafter Labor Camp is not available to the city at any nominal price. The camp under Public Housing Administration control will be offered for sealed bid on October 26 in San Francisco at a fair market price. Mortimore plans a full council report after his San Francisco trip.

Scout-O-Rama to Feature 200 Local Scouts This Weekend

About 200 boys from Shafter will participate in the community's second annual Scout-O-Rama at Kern County Park Saturday and Sunday. Reg Hammond leads as general chairman with six cub packs seven scout troops and four explorer units taking part. The parade and open house are scheduled with detailed times including a Court of Honor and campfire by the Order of the Arrow and a final parade along Wall Street ending at Richland Park camping area.
