Accident injures three children near Bakersfield
Emergency treatment was given to Juanita 12 James 8 and Jack Stewart 4 after a Sunday automobile crash on Highway 99 about two miles north of Bakersfield. The collision involved a car driven by Walter W. Stewart of Shafter and a machine driven by Harry McWilliams of Wasco.

Cotton gins reported 1 160 bales run across three local gins last week as picking gains speed. General Petroleum corp reports Sullivan No 1 well between Shafter and Greeley fields reached 10 865 feet on Tuesday morning. Officials say no outcome predictions yet, but a depth near 11 500 feet is hoped. Oil men expect production sand around the same depth as the Shafter field’s southern end.

Oil workers resume drilling at Union Oil well 41-34 Shafter
Workmen reported Tuesday morning that drilling resumed at Union Oil's 41-34 well in the Shafter field after completing a fishing job. A drill collar lost in the hole about three weeks earlier caused delays as operations continued toward a 9,000 foot depth.

Superior Oil spuds No. 1 well in Shafter field
Superior Oil started its No. 1 well in the Shafter field near Union's 41-34, in Section 34, 28-25, about a quarter mile south of Union's 41-34. Drilling is near 2000 ft with surface casing planned, part of two Superior projects at the field's north end alongside Union and General Petroleum activity. Weber No. 1 began late September, reaching 8900 ft Tuesday, as others hold multiple producers in the area.

Camp West Lowe Riders Triumph at Frontier Celebrations
Camp West Lowe riders of Shafter earned 15 Frontier trophies during Bakersfield Frontier Days. They claimed four first places seven parade prizes and two seconds plus a third in the silver mounted division and a livestock show champion. An accident in the parade injured a horse ridden by Charles West and the animal was later shot. The group has a regional reputation and recently appeared at the Cavalcade of the Golden West in San Francisco.

Corcoran Road Work Pushed In Tulare Budget
Tulare county supervisors have allotted funds to continue seven mile Shafter Corcoran road repairs just beyond Kern county line. Pipe for culverts is secured and some state aid may come. Temporary Units Planned For Richland
Richland Elementary District plans five or six temporary classroom units to ease crowded facilities. Bids will be opened at 7:30 p.m. October 27 at the school. Units will be built on the Shafter school grounds on Lerdo road and include interior finish lighting and heating. Enrollment has surged toward last year’s peak amid ongoing cotton and potato season growth.

Thief Steals Car Then Returns With Children Near Shafter
A car stolen from Ted Mouser near Shafter was driven north to the experiment farm where two children aged 7 and 6 were found asleep in the back seat. The thief then returned to town and later wrecked the car on Highway 99 two miles north of Lerdo road. Police report the thief remains unknown and no license number was obtained.
