No 213 American Legion completed plans for a Shafter Community Veterans Memorial Building to occupy the site of the present Legion hall on the corner of Jamee Street and California Avenue.
The Kern County Board of Supervisors and the Shafter Chamber of Commerce call for relocating the current American Legion building to Buttonwillow to serve residents there with a new community building. Some Shafter residents favored keeping the building in place as an adjunct but withdrew opposition.
