CVP Delivers Electric Power to San Joaquin Agencies
The Central Valley Project began delivering CVP power to two public agencies in the San Joaquin Valley with Friant Dam in Fresno County and Castle Air Force Base receiving service in late August. A new wheeling contract with Pacific Gas and Electric Co lowers Castle AFB charges from 3171.36 to 1636.67 monthly, reflecting a 40 percent cut from 9–10 mills to about 6 mills per kilowatt hour. Federal law gives public agencies priority use of CVP power, and the arrangement may let other municipalities and districts seek cheaper CVP electricity through the wheeling setup.
