Officer cleared in assault case after burglary incident
Former Shafter police officer Matthew Shelton was found not guilty of assault with a deadly weapon on November 21. The jury could not reach verdicts on lesser charges. The case involved a January 30, 2009 burglary alarm at Golden Oak School and an encounter with Emmanuel Perez, who was linked to a window being broken with bolt cutters. An audit later questioned Shelton’s taser video report, prompting outside investigation.

Christmas Outreach and Holiday Events at High Vision Ministries
High Vision Ministries hosts a fathers and sons outreach on Saturday December 3 from 1 to 3 PM at 201 S Central Valley Hwy with refreshments and about 225 toys and a bicycle prize. Pastors Arthur and Yolanda Plaza lead the event. A mother and daughter tea featuring The Story of Esther follows with 250 toys for girls and door prizes. Seating is limited first come first served. Also Holiday Open House at Minter Field Air Museum on Saturday December 10 from 10 to 2 with refreshments and a glad hand.
