Funeral Services Held Monday for C. C. Shelton 70
Funeral services were held at Armstrong mortuary for Christopher Columbus Shelton 70 of 318 Terra Vista Lane who died November 21 after a short illness. Brother Curtis R. Willie of Fundamental Baptist church Fresno officiated and burial followed in Shafter cemetery. He was born July 11 1886 in Wild Cherry Arkansas and lived in the state 13 years and in this area six years. Survivors include his widow Minnie Shelton eight sons three daughters 33 grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

Man Arrested for Hit and Run Driving
Ivy Cecil Benson of Jefferson Oregon was arrested on a hit and run charge after allegedly crashing into two vehicles at Five Points and fleeing without identification. Sheriff’s Sgt. Finley Osborn made the arrest within about forty minutes after Benson was recognized by a victim who phoned authorities.

Albert Glenna 55 a Shafter farm laborer of 257 Marenge Street died Thursday morning at a Bakersfield hospital. Funeral services are pending at the Robert L. Jones Mortuary in Wasco.

Fire Log Reports Weekend Blazes Across Local Areas
Fire crews responded Saturday at 11:30 AM to a structure west of Poplar on Lerde owned by Clyde Zachary with a fire in a cardboard box near a clothes dryer flue. Damage spread to the clothes dryer water heater and laundry room. Sunday at 11:00 AM a fire was found burning 750 pounds of seed cotton in a mechanical picker along Riverside and Central Valley Highway. the seed cotton was dumped to save the machinery and the blaze is believed to be arson-related.
