Shafter Recreation District receives $27,000 in funding
City Administrator Bill Sheldon told Shafter City Council the county approved nearly $5 million in augmentation for special districts, with Shafter Recreation District receiving $27,000 of its $81,000 proposed budget. District directors noted this base funding follows AB8 provisions and will support ongoing annual funding. The council also proclaimed Mental Health Day for November 30 1979 and approved two annexations, a wastewater treatment plan study, a Planning Commission growth synopsis, and issued December turkeys as employee compensation.

Window shatters as burglar nabbed in auto parts raid
Shafter police arrested Ignacio Robles 27 after he smashed through Neufelds Auto Parts window at 10 15 p m following a foot chase. He faced burglary resisting arrest and weapon charges. An officer recovered a six to seven inch knife. Robles bail set at five thousand six hundred twenty five dollars amid a citywide police report including other arrests and local events.
