A solemn Mennonite Brethren Church ceremony joined Miss Mary Lou Enns and Dale Scales in marriage. Rev. Waldo Wiebe officiated as 360 guests attended the reception with rustic decor and a carved heart keepsake.
Mrs. W. L. Riser spoke to the Seventh District at Shafter High School stressing that parental attitudes matter more than words. She urged parents to be supportive and confident, with sessions led by Mrs. Roy Dumble and others. The program featured songs by Buttonwillow Mothersingers and a Belridge School playlet, with district officials presiding and attendees from multiple PTA units.
A Mennonite Brethren Church Sunday dinner hosted Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Bergen and relatives. Henry Kohfeld of Fresno presented color slides from a New York City trip, featuring Niagara Falls and Mount Vernon. Attendees included Knox Bergen, Enns families, Becker and Shinen households, and several San Jose and Fresno residents.
Mr and Mrs George Parker and Mr and Mrs E J Selvidge of Buttonwillow attended the ball game in Los Angeles on Saturday. Jack Hare of Shafter has been named to the distinguished guests committee of the National Department American Legion.
A 4-H officers training session was held Saturday morning at the agriculture building in Bakersfield. Miss Lois Lyman and Bill Hight led the event for Kern county club members. Maple 4-H sent president Janice Balzer and secretary Martha Mitchell who served on a mock trial jury, with Beverly Ehrhorn attending part of the program.
Jan Gibson daughter of Mr and Mrs Fred L Gibson 641 Central Ave appears in Central Christian College production Songs America Sings She will sing Can't Help Singing and Four Leaf Clover in the show from 1953 theater program context.
Mrs. Arthur Ehrhorn provided transportation for local girls, aiding community activities as meetings outlined duties for city officers in their respective towns.
