New Bus Delivered to Richland Grammar School
The Richland Grammar School board received a 64 passenger bus from Norval Fair this week. Built on a Reo chassis with a Gilley Body Works Hayward body it includes safety steel sides and top leather seats and a rear emergency exit. It will enter service Monday when classes resume after Thanksgiving.

Yesterday officials announced the Hitchcock hotel, built in 1913 as Kern County Land company headquarters, will be moved to face James Street to make way for a Shell service station. W. H. Hitchcock and Miss Marion Hitchcock own the property. Shell will lease and operate the station after construction, with completion likely by year’s start.

Youth Fined After Minor Parking Crash Saturday
Donald Ornitz 18 of Hollywood was fined 25 dollars and given a suspended 10 day sentence by Judge F E Manuel after attempting to park on the left side of Central avenue. Alvin Roberson of Shafter won the championship pen of five Hereford steers in the junior division at the Great Western Livestock Show in Los Angeles. He also won first in the Hereford heavyweight division and fourth with a Hampshire pen. Tess Smith Home Burns At Smith Corner
A Thursday afternoon fire gutted the Tess Smith home near Smith Corner south of Shafter, with damage estimated above $1,000. Mrs. Smith discovered the blaze in a clothes closet and, aided by neighbors, tried to contain it until the Shafter fire department arrived. the interior was destroyed though some furniture was saved. Firefighters prevented further damage to the property and nearby structures.
