General Petroleum Completes Fourth Well in Shafterfield
General Petroleum corporation completed its Van Ness No 4 well in Shafterfield on Monday night with an estimated flow of over 5 000 barrels of oil and about 4 500 000 cubic feet of gas. The depth reached 11 510 feet with oil sand at 11 420 feet and the well tops four producers in the field. Rigging for Van Ness No 3 began yesterday, with spudding anticipated once equipment is set.

Body Shipped for Burial of Mrs Cora Boyd in Oklahoma
The body of Mrs. Cora M. Boyd, 66, who died of a heart attack late Tuesday at her Shafter home on Munzer street, was shipped to Kingfisher Oklahoma for burial. She had lived in Shafter one year and is survived by her husband Sylvester S. Boyd and two children.

Maple Library Opens in Kern County Facility
The Maple branch of the Kern county library officially opened Monday evening with about 50 people attending. Miss Helen Schellenberg checked out the first book as 20 people applied for library cards and 25 books were issued. The library sits in the Maple grammar school front section, with 186 books on shelves and plans for more. Hours are 7 to 9 p m on Mondays and Thursdays for adults, with Wednesday mornings planned for students.

Standard Wildcat Cemented At 2000 Foot Depth
Workmen at the Standard Oil wildcat well 18-1 in Section 29 28-26 near Shafter cemented to about 2000 feet to seal surface water seeping from an abandoned hole. A 78 foot derrick was reassembled last week, 150 sacks of cement poured by Tuesday, with more pumped in as crews pursue a successful shutoff.

Champion Steers Bring 11 Cents At Western Auction
Hereford steers led by Alvin Roberson in the Great Western Livestock show in Los Angeles last week sold for 11 1/2 cents per pound at public auction Friday. Average weight 1,098 pounds, price 2 1/2 cents above the LA market. Swift & Co. bought the animals. the steers won last year as feeder calves. Hog entries by Harris, Bobst, and Roberson sold for 9.30 per hundred, 50 cents over prior price. Future group members toured the Swift packing plant in LA after the sale.
