Shafter City to Issue Bonds for Street Improvement Project
The Shafter City Council outlined a street improvement program covering West Wall Street West Shafter Avenue and Lerdo Avenue areas with grades as shown on the city plans. Public hearings set for December 13 1948 to challenge the proposed work and bonds issued under the Improvement Bond Act of 1915 with a ten year term.

Maple 4-H Girls enjoyed a Friday hayride and weiner roast at Menno Siemans ranch with Mrs. Frankie Siemans and Miss Louella Schellenberg leading. Transportation by Ruben Siemans and many club members plus Barbara Siemens Norma Nicol Arlene Ehrhorn Barbara Wiens Karen Burnquist Zoe Ann Jantzen Shirley Neufeld Andre Gloeckler Diana Strauss and others attended. Bob Burnquist returns to work in Anaheim with a cast on his hand. Mrs. Lucille Hearron entertained children after school for Margie Hearron’s birthday with outdoor games and a picnic supper. Attendees included Barbara Wiens Diana Strauss Arlene Ehrhorn Barbara Siemens Norma Nicol and others. Mr. and Mrs. D. O. Rogers visited Chickasha Oklahoma in their new car to bring Mrs. Rogers' parents for a visit. while away Travis and Barbara Rogers kept house. Mrs. John Wiens is reported greatly improved after illness.

Maple Scout Troop No. 77 joined seven other troops from Delano Mc Farland Wasco and Shafter at the Northern District Camporee on Jim Beard ranch near Glenville. Patrols camped by Poso Creek cooked over fires slept in pup tents and earned Class A awards and rib bonds.

Mr and Mrs Leonard Johnson of Wasco announce the birth of a baby daughter Kayleen Joyce born Tuesday November 16 at Wasco Maternity Home. The newborn weighed six pounds fourteen ounces at birth and the family is well known in Shafter.
