Jan Dargatz Named Officer in CASG District 16

About 150 students from 15 local high schools attended the Fall Conference of the California Association of Student Council on October 25. Officers for CASG District 16 for 1967 68 include Wattenbarger president from North High Mike Alton vice president from Bakersfield High Jan Dargatz secretary treasurer from Shafter Lettymann Minch from Arvin High. The adviser to District 16 is Mr Jean Philipp from East Bakersfield High. The Bakersfield High School program theme was Viewpoints on Student Activities as seen by students administrators and community leader. Doug Wattenbarger President of CASC District 16 and Mr Wallace principal of Bakersfield High School.

Local Woman Killed in One Car Wreck Near Lynwood

Mrs. David Roland died in a one car crash in the Lynwood area after a collision that left her seriously injured earlier. She was 19 born January 19, 1944 and attended Maple School and Kern Academy. Services are set for Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Seventh-day Adventist Church with burial at Shafter Memorial Park. She is survived by a 13 year old from her first marriage and a four month old from her second marriage, plus her parents Mr. and Mrs. Andy Nightengale and four brothers Lionel Gary Timothy and Steven.

Expansion of cotton industry and greater profits forecast

California cotton profits are expected to rise as improved yields and marketings push value from 197 million this year to 313 million by 1972. Bank of America notes delayed crop due to poor spring conditions but favorable pre harvest weather should lift average yield and support higher prices.

Shafter Football Banquet Date Set

The twenty first annual Shafter Civic Football Banquet is scheduled for Tuesday December 5 at 7 p.m. in the Shafter Veterans Memorial Hall. All squad members on A B and C teams plus coaches and managers will attend. Bakersfield College Renegades head coach Jerry Collis will be the guest speaker. Tickets cost 2.50 per plate and go on sale at the high school office November 20 and from Shafter Service Club after Thanksgiving. Organizations participating include American Legion Post 213 Rotary Lions Kiwanis Christian Business Men's Committee 20 30 Club Chamber of Commerce and Shafter High School Associated Student Body.

Shafter Generals blank Wasco Tigers 31 to 0 on gridiron

After a week of buildup the Shafter High Generals defeated the Wasco Tigers 31-0 on the Shafter gridiron. Vince Rodriguez returned a kickoff and connected with Rodriguez for a first half touchdown as Tim Robnett scored on a keeper and added the extra point.

New Pastor Fills Pulpit at Shafter Pentecostal Church

Rev and Mrs H A Thomas become the new pastors of the Pentecostal Church of God at 425 So Shafter Ave coming from Wichita Kansas where they served 17 years. Thomas led Kansas as District Superintendent for 15 years and both have held multiple roles in the organization. They visited missions across Mexico Cuba Jamaica Haiti British Honduras and plan a Holy Land tour. Their daughter Harlena attends Southern Bible College in Houston and her husband studies for ministry. The church invites public services.

Shafter Legion and Auxiliary Meet District Quota

Shafter's Leslie L. Robinson Post 213 achieved its district quota with 142 members after Sundays meeting at the Veteran's Memorial Hall. The accompanying Auxiliary unit reached 65 members, with Cathy Morgan as district chair and Gene Weiss presiding. Seventy five guests joined a noon turkey dinner. The 15th district meets again January 21, 1968 in Tipton with Jean Keene of Downey attending.
