Ground Breaking For First Of 10 Self Help Homes
Ground was broken Friday in the Mexican Colony for the first of 10 Self Help Enterprises homes to be built in the area. The three bedroom house for Mr and Mrs Michael Saise marks the start of the project with Saise chosen first in the building program. Seven homes will be built in the Mexican Colony, two in Shafter and one in Smiths Corners. Saise, a farm laborer, could not attend. his wife Mrs Sally Saise and son Jimmy attended the event with Gary the other son. Officials included H W Pat Kelly of the Shafter Chamber of Commerce and Howard Holden Kern county supervisor for Farmers Home Administration which is financing the homes.

Kenneth Carlton Receives Army Second Lieutenant Commission

Ballots for four new directors were mailed this week and must be returned by November 17. A state study on State Route 43 is completed and citizens will be briefed. the state will widen and improve the present road instead of the former design.
