Thanksgiving holiday closing and local Turkey Shoot winners
The Shafter Press will be closed November 22 and 23 for Thanksgiving. Local businesses participated in a contest awarding 20 free $10 gift certificates for Thanksgiving turkey purchases. The Turkey Shoot at the Shafter Lions Club awarded about 152 turkeys, with Allen Hall of Bakersfield winning a Remington Model 870 shotgun. Other community events include a Christmas Tree Lighting on November 30, Buy-A-Brick at the Green Hotel, and a New Year’s Eve Gala by Soroptimist International.

Shafter City Plans Water Project At Minter Field Meeting

Third vehicle linked in fatal Lerdo Highway crash
Dana Christina Hildebrand, 22, died at the scene when her compact car crossed the Lerdo Highway center divider and struck a three axle truck on Tuesday November 13. CHP spokesman Rick Odom says strong evidence points to a third vehicle involvement though officials would not confirm. A suspect has reportedly been identified and impounded per town sources. The CHP says the accident is still under active investigation. Anyone with information is asked to contact the CHP at 327-1069.

Shafter pool renovation moves forward with ADG plans
SRPD board discussed the Shafter pool renovation with Aquatic Design Group chosen for architectural and engineering work and a services contract in progress. A water line break Oct 16 caused damage in the equipment room and asbestos removal estimated at about 16155 dollars. The district will inspect the school property southeast of the pool for debris and decide on barriers or acquisition.
