The 10th annual Shafter Civic Sportsmanship banquet will honor city football squads and coaches at 7 p.m. December 11 in the SHS Cafetorium. General chairman Milton Johnson announced guest speaker Tom Fears, former Rams star and UCLA All-American end. Master of ceremonies will be H. W. Pat Kelly. Tickets go on sale next week as committees meet to organize. sponsors include the chamber of commerce and several local service groups. Awards will honor MVPs and top scholastic players from Varsity and Junior Varsity.

Turkey Shoot Sunday by Shafter 20-30 Club

A 34 year old former convict was jailed in Bakersfield after a road block near Pixley led to the arrest of Edward Randolph Pope of Lakewood Los Angeles County on suspicion of armed robbery at Ray's Market near Shafter. A customer reported the holdup and $129 was taken. Pope denies involvement as authorities coordinated among Shafter police Kern County Sheriff and CHP.

Clash Between Shafter and Corcoran Faces Board Action
The Cent Section of the CIF prepares to hear reports on a football brawl between Shafter and Corcoran on November 2. Two Injured In Shafter Car Collision
Two people sustained serious injuries in a two car crash at Lerdo and Central Valley highways in Shafter. Mose Scroggins of Bakersfield suffered bruised ribs after the impact. Hugh Sterling Giddings of Wasco had deep cuts. He was taken to a Shafter physician while Scroggins was transported to Kern General Hospital. The crash occurred as Scroggins attempted a U turn, according to Shafter Patrolman Claude Mitchell.

Local FFA Steers Win First Prize In National Show
A Shafter High School Agriculture class entry won the Reserve Grand Championship at the Grand National Livestock Show in San Francisco. The school plans another one-car load entry of prime shop steers and a pair of Angus steers to compete in the Great Western Livestock Show in Angeles. The two entries earned championship ribbons at the Kern Fair.

Scott Frost Wins American Trotting Classic at Hollywood Park

Fire log reports injuries and losses in multiple incidents
