Shafter Awards Culvert Project to Hawk Contractor

Legion to Conduct Military Funeral for S Sgt Johnny Melvin
Full military honors will be accorded the funeral Saturday for S/Sgt. Johnny Severn Melvin USMC whose remains arrived in Shafter. He was killed in action on Peleliu in the Pacific in September 1944. The son of Mrs Maggie Melvin of Shafter, his body was met at the Santa Fe station by Leslie L. Robinson Post 213 American Legion and escorted to Shafter Funeral Home. Services will be held tomorrow afternoon at the Pentecostal Church of God on Shafter Highway at 2 o'clock with Rev E L Bradhurst officiating. The Legion urges all members to attend.
