Mr and Mrs Helmuth Spitzer of Streeter North Dakota and their son visited the Kirsch enman home in Shafter for the weekend. They departed Monday morning to return home.
Dutch Derr, secretary of the Greater Hanford Chamber of Commerce, will speak on Oddities of Alaska at the Richland Teachers Club fall banquet in the school cafeteria on Monday evening November 15. Tickets are sold by faculty and seating is limited.
Wasco residents paid final tribute to Judge Arch R. Beckes who died Friday at Kern General Hospital. Funeral services were at R. L. Jones Chapel, Wasco, with burial in the new Wasco Cemetery. He was 1874 born Brandhaven Kansas, served as Wasco postmaster from 1920 to 1933 and justice of the peace since 1942. Surviving: widow Myrtle A., two sons Ralph and Walker, three daughters, and other relatives.
The Shafter Art Association will present a Ceramics Mart at the local Women’s Club Thursday evening November 11. Kern County artists including Shafter devotees enter numerous pieces with Vilas Ceramics Studio of Bakersfield highlighted for its design.
Shafter and Wasco high schools contest for a new joint trophy to be engraved with victors name and date. The 20 30 clubs funded the award to be passed for annual possession to the winner, with the engraving marking the win. Saturday morning location undecided between Shafter and Wasco.
The Shafter 20-30 Club plans a Christmas party with a theatre program for local children. George Geisler Marvin Weidenbach and Kenny Howell met Er nest Panero and Fresno Bee to arrange theaters, films, and Santa’s candy. The date is to be announced. The program features Arabatty Bunny Cinderella's Feller Wacky Worm A Boy and His Dog Daffy Duck and Egghead Rhapsody Rabbit Keystone Hotel with old fashioned slap stick in sound.
Mr and Mrs Gaffery Howsley of Berkeley stayed overnight with Bill Banks at his home on Sunday night as they continued their journey to Los Angeles for a week long visit.
Mrs. Bob Reaney and her infant son Douglas Ray left Shafter on Sunday for a week long stay at the home of Mr. and Mrs. W. R. Reaney in Tulare.

Shafter's Generals opened with an early lead and held off a late Emperor rally to claim their fourth Tri-County League win as Dinuba's Emperors fall 21 to 12. The defeat came after Dinuba B beat Dinuba Eleven 26 to 7 earlier in the night.
The body of S/Sgt. Johnny Lavern Melvin United States Marine Corps killed in action in the Pacific in 1944 will be returned to Shafter for burial with full military honors. A native of Elk City Oklahoma Melvin had lived in Shafter two years before enlisting. His funeral is set for Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Pentecostal Church of God with services conducted by Rev. E L Bradhurst and burial in Shafter Cemetery. He is survived by his mother seven brothers two sisters and a grandmother.

Mrs. Earl Weinbrenner of New Orleans left Burbank by plane for home Thursday after visiting Shafter with her parents Mr and Mrs D M Steele. A Friday call to Mrs Steele said the American Airlines DC 6 aircraft she rode on caught fire between Los and San.
