Occupant Escapes in Trailer Fire
Cecil Smith escaped a flash fire when a 14-foot aluminum trailer at 149 Nikkel St burned on Tuesday October 28 around 6 30 PM. The blaze started after theft of a butane tank and regulator and Smith’s mis lighting caused a flash. Fire crews from the city and county fought the blaze, saving papers and some belongings with estimated damage about 175 dollars.

Carla Taffra was crowned queen during Shafter High School 1969 Homecoming festivities held Friday night between halves of the Shafter Taft football game. The Taft team defeated the Generals 42 to 27 in the South Sequoia Conference opener, while the day ended with a school gym dance after a day of events. The JV tied 8-8 after a late fumble cost them victory.
