A reunion marking the 30th anniversary of the undefeated 1962 Shafter Generals will occur at the Shafter Taft game this Friday, November 6. Special guest Coach Claude Gilbert will attend and a reception follows at SHS.
First Southern Baptist Church offers low impact aerobics for ladies free on Tuesday evenings from 6 30 to 7 30 in the church cafeteria at 250 Kern Street with child care. Tri Tip BBQ. Shafter High School Band has one game Friday night against Taft with Band Boosters booth listed at the location.
The Shafter Women’s Club will meet on Wednesday November 4 at 11 30 am. Attendees are asked to bring a doll for display. Lunch reservations can be made by calling 746 5709 or 746 2466.
The Women's Aglow Fellowship will meet Monday November 9 at 7 p.m. at Shafter Veterans Hall with refreshments at 6:45 p.m. Guest speaker Paula Romines of Bakersfield, part of Integrity Alive Ministries, invites all women to join for fellowship and ministry.
Taylor a 42 year old Countryside Market manager was shot outside his Wasco mobile home on Poso Drive and died at Kern Medical Center. Neighbors heard the gunfire as detectives probe whether the killer knew his routine and why the crime occurred.
After seven years drought, California eyes normal rainfall though forecasters doubt it. Kern County saw about an inch in recent storms while Napa Valley reports five inches. Wasco had .44 inch in a single day. Tehachapi and Tehachapi residents faced a wet cold front. Northern mountains received up to three feet of snow transforming towns into early winter scenes.
City Manager Wade McKinney told Kiwanis that Shafter is making steady progress as the 1992 93 fiscal plan projects $3.1 million in general fund revenue and $2.9 million in expenditures with funds allocated to police and fire, streets, administration, parks, and other areas. The note cites annexation, a renovated courthouse becoming City Hall, Rodgriguez Park improvements, basketball courts, and planned railroad crossing upgrades on Central Avenue and Lerdo Highway.
