Richland Lerdo District elects first Hispanic on board
Richland Lerdo School District voters elected Manuel Melero the district’s first Hispanic trustee holder after tallies from the November 3 election showed Melero top with 1,231 votes. Incumbents Lawrence Handel and Steve Skalisky trailed, while John Stockton, Margaret Smith, Deanna Rodriguez Root, Frankie Prender and Joaquin Patino Jr also ran. Melero is to be sworn December 7, and the city council results included Don Zachary and Gary Nelson ahead of Gary Knox, with the official count due December 1.

Death in Wasco: Market Manager Clifford Taylor Shot
Clifford Roy Taylor, manager of Countryside Market at 343 Star Ave Wasco, was killed by a high caliber pistol shot early October 30 as he sat in his pickup. Investigators say no suspects or witnesses identified. motive and killer remain unclear, with detectives treating it as a homicide without leads.
