Water plan will not raise rates for Shafter residents
City Engineer John Guinn says proposed link of Shafter water system with Minter Field Airport District will not increase local rates. Officials seek long term solution to safe drinking water after Lerdo School used boiled water costing about $20,000 annually and district paid $799.92 yearly for irrigation water. Waxed Floor Fight At Local RTC Sparks Inmate Disturbance
A disturbance at the Shafter Return to Custody facility Friday night followed a dispute over a freshly waxed floor. Lt. Claude Cash said the fight began about 8 55 p m and lasted five minutes before control was restored. The melee involved Hispanic white and black inmates, with officials noting no clear racial motivation.
