Virgil Cook 36 and L Z Cook 23 were charged with intoxication disturbing the peace and indecent exposure and sentenced to 90 days in the County Jail. Rudolph A Wittenberg 24 charged with intoxication disturbing the peace received a 50 dollar fine and a 60 day suspended sentence.
The Shafter community prepares for a Mercy Train wheat donation drive totaling 360 dollars with funds raised at local schools and banks. The Pasadena Players present Dear Ruth at 8 p.m. Friday, starring Evelyn Wolfram and Richard Farrell, with Arline Schulz. admission is 1 for adults and 50 cents plus tax for children.

Services for John William Woods age 63 were held at 2 p m yesterday in Flickinger Jansen Mortuary with Elder Richard Monroe officiating. Interment followed in Shafter cemetery. He was born in Indiana April 5 1884 and worked as a glass blower. Surviving are his wife Sarah Jane Woods a son John Kenneth Woods three step sons and two step daughters including Thelma Franklin and Mrs E G Mann. He also leaves a brother a niece and a grandchild.
Frances Rose moved to first with 95 000 votes after the third week while Wesley Brown surged to 82 500 in one week and won the weekly 25 merchandise award. Morton Brown placed third with 5 000 votes as Leon Pitts held steady.
The Ladies Aid of the Union Congregational Church holds its monthly meeting this Thursday at Mrs. Harry Van Natta's 200 Ash Street. All members and friends are urged to attend.

The Home Appliance and Furniture Co in Shafter marks completion of a major expansion with a doubled downstairs area and a new second floor for baby furniture and bedding. The event runs through Saturday with open house, coffee and cookies Thursday, and prize drawings including an electric roaster a Westinghouse portable radio and a Westinghouse electric Comfort.
A large Friday night parade through Shafter drew hundreds who watched floats outfits and costumes judged at County Park. Top honors went to Jimmy Russell Eve Newell Mary Jane Crawford Larry Vannatta and others with prizes for 1st 2nd and 3rd in several age groups and vehicle categories.
