Taxpayer warning on Proposition 20 sparks Kern County taxes fear
Fred E. Stewart of the State Board of Equalization warned Kern County taxpayers that a single tax under Proposition 20 would sharply raise property taxes. He cited estimates showing rates rising from 4.31 inside cities and 2.75 outside to 12.85 and 7.21 per 100 assessed valuation, plus potential higher future levies. He warned of forced property confiscation, loss of governmental funds, school closures, and higher rents and prices, urging a no vote.
