Prices Out of Line SWID Rejects Second Water System Bids
The Shafter Wasco Irrigation District on Tuesday night rejected all bids for the second portion of its $10 million water distribution project after the U S Bureau of Reclamation found pipe prices out of line. Engineers suggested combining the last two units into one bid package with a possible August setting date, aiming for completion by July 1958 if approved.

Housing shortages hit migrant workers near Shafter
Field workers and families moved into the Shafter area as housing ran short. Minter Village offers about 30 unfurnished units at 30 to 36 dollars a month with 10 dollar deposits, but few are affordable for two month season workers. Shafter B Team Wins Valley Swim Meet at Selma
Shafter High School's junior team captured the Valley Swim Meet title, beating Lindsay 51 to 50 for first among 18 small schools in the San Joaquin Valley. Glen Putman starred, setting a valley record in the 50-yard butterfly and helping the medley and freestyle relays to top finishes. Other Shafter swimmers included Gervis Robey Orville Pearson Jim Nixon Oscar Little Bob Krause Lloyd Nanney and Verna Pearson and Suzie Pego swam in girls events with Pearson placing second in the IM and Pego second in the butterfly.
