Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at Armstrong Mortuary in Shafter for Peter Isaac 89 of 413 W Marengo who died May 18 at his home Elder Harvey Better officiated Interment was in Shafter cemetery Isaac born April 11 1867 in Russia had lived in the community 48 years He was a carpenter Survivors include four sons Peter Henry William and John all of Shafter two brothers John of Shafter and Frank of and a sister Mrs Katherine Peters of Shafter 13 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren

Glenn Is Named Top Drum Major at Wasco Festival
Charlie Glenn of Shafter High was named top drum major at the Wasco spring festival parade. He received a 13 inch trophy amid competition from eight drum majors representing High Richland Standard Wasco Elementary Rio Bravo and Delano Elementary. Band Director Kenneth Fahsbender noted it was the first Shafter High drum major trophy in years.

Shafter area residents are reminded that applications are being accepted in the county clerk office for absent voters ballots for the Consolidated Primary on June 5. The last day to apply is May 31. Pool to Open for Summer Weekends in Richland

The Shafter Ground Observer and the Chamber of Commerce announce a beauty contest to select Miss Shafter 1956 Cathy Morgan. Retirement of Mrs Helen Wilson Fourth Grade Teacher

Final Rites for Pastor's Mother Held in Barstow
The final rites for 80 year old Barstow resident Mrs Bedwell mother of Rev Byron Bedwell were held Wednesday in Barstow. She died in May at her home and had lived with her son for five months. Born July 1 1875 in Texas she was shipped to Barstow by Armstrong Mortuary for burial.
