Spud Prices Rise Amid Market Strength and Rot Concerns
Prices for U S No 1 potatoes reached 75 cents as the market strengthens with rising demand in the East and reduced Alabama shipments due to rains. Downgraded yields and rot issues affect some crops while Bliss Triumphs and Long White varieties show varied pricing and limited acreage. Local growers estimate California yields 50 to 60 percent of normal, with total car shipments projected lower than last year.
