Scouts Gather for Northern District Scout-O-Rama in Shafter
Shafter hosted the Northern District Scout-O-Rama drawing about 500 scouts, leaders, parents and friends. Six troops and five packs from Shafter Wasco Delano and Maple competed in a daylong series of cubbing and scouting contests. Pack 913 won the pinewood derby and Pack 953 ran a bicycle rodeo with two Shafter police volunteers on hand.

Richland School District announces summer classes for kindergarten through seventh grade starting Monday June 17 and running daily 8 a.m. to noon at the Intermediate School 331 Shafter Avenue. Daily bus pickup is provided at listed locations with no lunch program offered for the five week session.

Boiling water attack shocks Shafter community
A 40 year old man Ira Bailey of 1042 Alamo was asleep when a woman poured boiling water over him Sunday night. He was hospitalized in satisfactory condition. Deputies know nothing of the attacker's relation to Bailey or motive. The sheriff's office issued a toll free Enterprise number for unincorporated area residents to request deputies.
