Shafter Future Farmers honor members at FFA banquet
The Shafter Future Farmers of America held its annual banquet May 20 at the Veterans' Hall with a large crowd. FFA president Tami Handel announced awards to judging teams, leadership crews, and Star Greenhands Stephanie Cortez and Tamara Plumley, plus Star Chapter Farmer Kari Heinsohn. Seniors received $100 scholarships for Bassett and Becky Smith. The event included proficiency awards for 21 members and recognition of honorary chapter farmers.

Richland Junior Building Dedication Set for June 2
The formal dedication of the new Richland Junior building on Shafter Avenue occurs Monday June 2 at 7 p m. Vera Stone superintendent of Richland School District invites attendance and says tours will be offered for the public. An Open House is planned in fall after teachers move in to show use of the facilities.
