Social Security and Medicare Boards warn funds in balance
The 1994 Trustees report says the Social Security trust funds will pay benefits well into the 21st century while the disability fund will exhaust in 1995. It urges tax-rate adjustments between the funds and notes Medicare’s Hospital Insurance trust fund remains severely out of balance with exhaustion projected in 2001 unless changes occur. The boards include Shalala, Bentsen, and Reich among its five members.
