Elk roofing complex nears completion in Shafter
A $30 million Elk Corporation roofing facility on Lerdo Highway in the MFAD is nearing completion. The 150000 sq ft plant on an 87 acre site formerly Ranchers Cotton Oil will employ up to 140 workers at full capacity, with initial staffing around 90 and a $3 million payroll. City planners began strategic work in 1990 to guide growth, with annexation seen as boosting taxes and opportunities for residents.
