Record 107 Degree Heat Hits Shafter Area Saturday
Shafter residents received a blistering alert as May weather warmed, with a 107 degree high on Saturday May 16, a new May record for U S Cotton as the week led to a heat spike. Night readings stayed in the comfortable 60s as temperatures climbed from May 12 to May 17. Readings listed from the Cotton Research Station show the sequence of daily highs and nights.

Curriculum Group Changes Session To Tuesday Night

Youth Thwarted In Trying To Beat The Heat
An 18 year old youth, seeking relief from heat, was found nude in a car behind the Pit Bar. Bakersfield women saw him wandering in the parking area and he fled to a car after noticing them. Police arrested the intoxicated youth. his clothes and a bottle of sloe gin were recovered in nearby shrubs.
