Aside from his countywide service Sir Roy Woollames has pushed major Shafter and Wasco projects. He secured the county building wing for Shafter, helped park improvements, and backed a large Veterans Building. He led the Central Valley Highway effort, naming the route and securing over 400000 in federal and state funds for Kern County with segments from Wasco to Elmo and Elmo to the Kern Tulare line under construction this summer.

Shafter High School’s medley relay team placed fourth at the West Coast Relays in Fresno. Five Week Old Baby Dies Sudden at Home
A five week old baby, Bennie Henry Voth III, died suddenly at dawn after a resuscitation call to the H. W. Handel ranch at 29953 Los Angeles Street. Funeral services are pending with Flickinger-Janzen Mortuary. Surviving are sisters Emily two and Sydney fifteen months.

Auxiliary Makes Final Poppy Day Plans
Final arrangements for Poppy Day Friday and Saturday will be set at a Legion Auxiliary meeting tonight at the American Legion Hall. Mrs J W Lassiter unit Poppy Chairman announced that all women who refused to distribute the flowers should attend for assignments and supplies. The unit expects the biggest Poppy Day in history as volunteers increase and funds are raised for disabled veterans and children of veterans. Poppies were received from Sawtelle Veterans Hospital and were made by disabled veterans under the California Department of the Auxiliary.
