Local women with kids arrested after burglary at Renfro Road
Gracy Vasquez and Cynthia Hernandez were arrested near Wasco and Shafter for Grand Theft Conspiracy and Contributing to the Delinquency of a Minor after deputies found them at a business on Renfro Road. They had five juveniles with them and were held in lieu of 32500 bail. Juveniles released to relatives. Investigation ongoing.

Generals shine at Area meet
Shafter High Generals boys track scored 54 points to finish fourth at the Sierra Sequoia Area meet. Angel won the 3200 meters in 9 43, beating the second place finisher by seven seconds. Matthew Bender won both shot put and discus, 5371 and 174 3 respectively, highlighting a strong team showing.

Blaze Destroys Vacant Home in Shafter May 9
Kern County Fire Department battled a 900 square foot vacant house fire on South Wall Street in Shafter at 3:00 a.m. Eighteen firefighters contained the blaze in 30 minutes, saving about $200,000 of surrounding property. Damages to the structure valued at $50,000. cause under investigation with no injuries. Assistance from Shafter Police and P.G.&E.

Redwood PTO Mother Son Dance at Shafter Activities Center
Redwood PTO hosted a Mother Son Dance in Shafter for ages 5 to 13 to honor Mothers Day. It featured food and a Cinderella Game where two sons correctly matched shoes, plus a crowded dance floor, a contest, and touching moments as mothers watched their sons dance with pride.
