Long Beach Special Olympics Track and Swim Meet Results
Shafter residents Terry Jones and Larry Lucas and Wasco’s Ron Park competed in Long Beach on April 19. Park won the 50 yard freestyle and was second in the 25 yard freestyle. Lucas won the standing long jump and was second in the 100 meter race. Jones finished second in the 50 meter and fourth in the standing long jump. May 3 events in San Gabriel saw Lucas win the 100 meter and place third in the standing long jump while Jones was second in the standing long jump and took third in the 50 meter.

Generals post two SSL wins to spark post season
Shafter's Generals baseball team earned two SSL road victories to secure a playoff berth at Chowchilla. Adelino Solorio homered in the seventh to beat Coalinga 8-6, then SHS defeated Wasco 5-1 behind strong pitching and key runs. Coach Gary Fowler guided a 13-7 overall record, tying for second in the league behind Garces and earning the league's second playoff nod.
