Shafter Depot wins national honors in Washington DC ceremony
Art and Georgette Kadel travel to Washington DC where Art, president of the Shafter Historical Society, will accept an Outstanding Public Service to Transportation and Historic Preservation award for the restoration of the Shafter Santa Fe Railroad Depot. The Depot Museum, funded by local events, opened with self supporting efforts and has raised about 125000 to date. A national ceremony and conference with DOT and ACHP officials are planned, with an expected 3:30 pm awards moment at the National Trust for Historic Preservation headquarters.
