Student builds a single seat VPS airplane at Shafter airport
After seven years of work North High School aviation students celebrate their open cockpit single seat VPS airplane takeoff at Shafter airport. Principal Dick Brown and district officials attend as Getty Oil reps are honored for scrap metal donations used to fund the project. Pilot Ron Grayhouse demonstrates dips and turns while students recall the labor and lessons from 1973 onward. The group plans to sell the craft this summer to fund the hangar, noting the plane is a beautiful fuel efficient open cockpit propeller aircraft.
