The Shafter Mennonite Brethren Church joins California Mennonite Brethren churches for a May 14 state rally in Fresno with 10 AM 2 PM and 7:30 PM services led by Rev J K Warkentin Arnold Prieb and Rev A A Loewen among speakers and music groups Kings Four radio quartet Gabriel Trumpeteers Gospel Messengers Quartet and Pacific Bible Institute Quartet. Shafter and Kern County youths will not be left out of the Shafter Potato Festival celebrations. Earl Johnson, Entertainment Committee Chairman, reports a special children's playground with rides and concessions on California Avenue between James Street and Central Valley Highway. A brand-new miniature train, Shetland ponies, a burro and surrey, and an airplane ride are among attractions. At 3 p.m. Saturday May 21 a potato race will be run on Sunset Avenue between Jamies Street and Central Valley Highway with prizes for winners.
