Full Accreditation for Shafter High School Announced
The Western Association has granted Shafter High School full accreditation through June 1970 after a March panel visit. The process included a curriculum study, staff and student interviews, and an on campus review of classrooms and operations. Principal Johnson praised faculty and community for the achievement.

State Theatre Opens With Spanish Pictures Schedule
The State Theatre now owned by H. C. Hight has been leased out. A series of Spanish pictures will be shown starting May 12 with a schedule on Wednesdays Fridays Saturdays and Sundays.

Shafter District Board Acts On Waste Water Basins And Costs
The Shafter Dey District Board approves an ordinance requiring settling basins by May 1 and joins the city council in trimming sick leave and workman's comp, as it reviews the No. 2 well and water distribution system. The Shafter Pump and Machine Company will inspect the well with photos to decide if saving is feasible, costing up to 535 dollars now and as much as 3000 dollars if restoration proceeds. A fence around the corporation yard on Tulare Street is to be cement block.

Shafter Planning Commission May 18 Meets on Bender Property
The Shafter Planning Commission will meet Tuesday May 18 at City Hall to decide on the Bender property on Walker street now used for truck parking after a temporary use permit. Residents protested the use and may appeal to the City Council if a permit is granted. The panel will also consider Richland School Districts Santa Fe property sale and C-2 zoning amid opposition.

Water Pressure Fluctuations Prompt Planned System Modifications
Water customers complain of wide pressure swings and very low pressure at outer areas of the system. Manager Lew Carroll cites high demand after drying winds, noting 4 160 000 gallons used in Shafter last Saturday. Engineering studies are underway and modifications are planned to start this fall to stabilize pressure.
