The Shafter Wasco Kiwanis club adopted a resolution to rename the organization and extend membership to Pond area. President J W Frizzell said the change strengthens service work and ties with Shafter and Wasco communities.
Local farmer Jack Hare found Colorado potato beetles during a Wasco inspection. Sacramento officials and state entomologist Stewart Lockwood arrived to verify the report and order precautionary spraying within 400 feet of affected plots. A shipment of tomatoes from Georgia was inspected for beetles to prevent wider infestation.
Van Ness No 2 in the Shafter Oil field held at 10,000 feet as General Petroleum reports slow progress due to extensive coring at the Buena Vista well.

A local warden was summoned in the afternoon to patrol the vicinity of a Standard company near Theo Bes Rey B after an oil fire was seen at about 5 30 p m. No injuries are described and the scene was being checked by authorities.
Spuds roll from shatter during the week with shipments growing slowly. East of the Mississippi river shipments are below normal while some shipments have gone to far eastern states. The coal strike on the coast is said to influence later in the season.

A bid from Nickel Ironworks was received to construct a flag pole for the new Shafter school. An order for school supplies awaits the Senate purchasing agent.
Enrollment at Richland school climbs with a surge of new students in the first three days of the week. The district reports higher numbers across most classes and adds two portable classrooms to accommodate the increase, placing 72 first graders in the new buildings Monday.

Officers to be seated in July include William Lachenmaier for president and Alfred T. Chandler for secretary. Other nominees for president from the floor were Orvin Mettler, E. P. Jones and M. Thomas. An election is scheduled in two weeks.
Funeral services for Mrs. J. P. Kliewer were conducted Monday with Wm. J. Bestwater officiating and interment in Reedley. She had been under medical care for two weeks before death. Born in southern Russia, she emigrated to America and settled with family at a Bakersfield area. later the family moved to Shafter where they had resided 21 years. Survived by husband and four sons Ed Bakersfield George Washington Jack John Dick and Don Shafter.
