The board heard that premiums rise for older retirees and required post-dated checks for continued group coverage. Recreation commission permission was granted to use Richland facilities for summer programs with the pool and baseball diamond staffed by the Rec Commission and liability insurance provided.
The Kern County Heart Association Mobile Unit will be in Shafter on May 15 from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Safeway Market parking lot. Dr. Kather Lundgren Temple of Cal State Bakersfield announced that senior seminar nursing students will provide free blood pressure checks to the public as part of community health nursing practice at the Kern County Health Department. Students work with public health nurses studying health maintenance and disease prevention for families while surveying community districts. Continued on Page 8.
The U S Department of Agriculture named 23 members and alternates to the Federal Raisin Advisory Board to advise the Raisin Administrative Committee on California raisin marketing order implementation. For District 17 Kern County, Kermeth Anderson and John De Vincenzo were chosen.
Police arrested 23 year old Jesus Martinez Castillo of 28597 Los Angeles Street after Lt Earl O'Brien found forced window bars and an unlocked side door at Anderson Motor Parts 300 State Street at 3 45 am. Tools were found inside the building as Castillo was grabbed while attempting to exit. Nightly checks of Shafter businesses are routine.
