W B Camp Named Grand Marshal for Shafter Parade
W B Camp the pioneer and founder of the USDA Cotton Research Station north of Shafter was chosen to head the 1974 Shafter Potato and Cotton Festival parade on May 11. Camp, called the father of California cotton, has long led cotton and related crops ventures and served in federal and state agricultural roles. The parade starts 10 a m with lineup at 9 30 a m at Marengo and Nikkel Streets. Three out of town judges are named. entry forms available at the Shafter Fire Department.

All invited to two hours of active games at Stringham Park on Sunday May 12 for the 1974 ton Festival. Belton Banks organizers call everyone to participate with sack races bobbing for apples and other events for youngsters and adults. Group events include tug of wars wheel barrow races and a ball over goal line challenge. Kiwanis Club challenges other Shafter groups in the competition. Cub Scout group involved.

Shafter police confirm a male streaker seen at the rear of a Foster Freeze drive-in on Lerdo Highway. Two employees reported leaving work at 10 p.m. Wednesday when they spotted a man in a streaker costume run from the rear and vanish into a vacant field.
